How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign uses a series of clear, custom-made trays to gradually shift your teeth into their ideal position. Each aligner is designed using 3D digital imaging of your bite, then applies light, targeted pressure to specific teeth. You’ll wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before moving on to the next in the series, and you should wear them approximately 22 hours a day. You only remove them to eat, drink, and brush and floss. Total treatment time varies by case, but most patients complete their journey in 12–18 months.
Here’s what the process looks like from start to finish:
- Consultation and digital scan. We evaluate your bite and take detailed digital images.
- Custom treatment plan. Using that scan, we map out exactly how your teeth will move, tray by tray, from start to finish.
- Wearing your aligners. You’ll switch to a new set every one to two weeks, with brief check-ins so we can track your progress.
- Retention. Once your teeth reach their final position, we’ll fit you with a retainer to protect your results.
